Tavistock  is 2-miles or so from Harford, and there is a footpath all the way that follows the A386.  It's an ancient market town founded on a Benedictine Abbey that later grew, after the dissolutions, into an important centre for mining.  It is now a thriving market town with many independent shops and high street names plus a unique Pannier Market  with a diverse range of traders that change on a day-to-day basis.  Must sees are the Town Hall, Markets and Guildhall Centre - which is a free heritage attraction that opened in 2021.    Visit Tavistock Website Link

Supermarkets are on the outskirts of Tavistock (Morrisons, Lidl &Tesco) on the A386 towards Plymouth.  There are two CoOp stores in town and a mix of independent butchers, bakers, pasty makers and delis.  There are also whole food shops, cheesemongers and other specialist food retailers.  You will likely be pleasantly suprised at the variety you behold!

Map of Tavistock A map is fixed to the outside of the Information Room and the Town Guide leaflet which includes a map is are available free inside.  In our Information Room you will also find other leaflets covering places to see and things to do in West Devon, The Tamar Valley and Dartmoor.
