Tavistock is 2-miles or so from Harford, and there is a footpath all the way that follows the A386. It's an ancient market town founded on a Benedictine Abbey that later grew, after the dissolutions, into an important centre for mining. It is now a thriving market town with many independent shops and high street names plus a unique Pannier Market with a diverse range of traders that change on a day-to-day basis. Must sees are the Town Hall, Markets and Guildhall Centre - which is a free heritage attraction that opened in 2021. Visit Tavistock Website Link
Wildlife We maintain a wildlife corridor along the bank of the River Tavy on the edge of the camping fields. Entering the river is possilble by the bridge and at the beach area in the lower camping meadow. Please do not enter the river from the bank in other places. If paddling in the river we advise wearing some appropriate footwear. The pools are very deep and the water is always cold which is why migratory fish lay-up in our waters. At night bats can be seen, the river has visiting otter and many birds visit to catch insects.
Dogs welcome. We have a separate field (our Tree & Wildflower Reserve) which is accesible from a gate opposite the entrance to the park - where dogs may run loose. The fence line to the next field is now dog proof. Should dogs foul the Park or Reserve you must bag the deposits and place in one of the dog waste bins provided (on the gate in the Reserve, by the Cycle Hub and on the entrance to the lower camping meadow.
